Documentary of the award-winning #SaveHakeem campaign launched at the Sydney Film Festival, 2023
Following the success of ‘Fighting for Hakeem’, the book that detailed the incredible global campaign to free Hakeem al-Araibi from a Thai prison, in June 2023, the documentary was launched at the Sydney Film Festival and premiered on Prime Video.
With behind the scenes footage and conversations with many of the key protagonists, the emotional and gripping film wowed audiences in Sydney and in special screenings by the Adelaide Film Festival and Cinema Nova, Melbourne and was awarded Best Documentary Film by viewers.
With the raw and often overwhelming emotion that characterised the campaign itself to save a young man’s life, the film charts the journey of Hakeem and Craig, whose lives were irrevocably intertwined from that point forward, throughout the harrowing 77 day incarceration.
From beginning to end, audiences cried and thrilled at the courage of Hakeem and those who fought for his young life and, ultimately succeeded.
