Archibald Prize 2021
Craig’s portrait by leading Australian artist, Julian Meagher was a Finalist in the 2021 Archibald Prize which is the most prestigious Australian portraiture prize undertaken annually by the NSW Art Gallery, Sydney.
Julian and Craig met through their shared advocacy and interest in the plight of refugees and asylum seekers in Australia and the portrait was an opportunity to create more visibility for the issue through the profile and National interest of the prize.
Julian is a 4-time Archibald Finalist and Wynne Prize Finalist and painted Craig in consecutive years. He is pictured above with his first entry, in 2020 which marked the previous year’s advocacy for Hakeem al-Araibi.
The two have since become great friends and work with many of Australia’s greatest contemporary artists on a range of social justice issues.
